The RaceGorilla Photocells are especially designed to operate in outdoor circumstances. They work best in combination with the RaceGorilla BlueBox-GPS, are easy to align and made for wet and rough conditions.
Place Transmitter
The transmitter is placed at start, finish or split, on the far side of the track (where the timer / operator / volunteer is not).
Make sure to align the transmitter as good as possible in height.
Switch on the transmitter. The battery can last for days in operation. Normally there should not be a worry about an empty battery for a day (….or two).
The height of the timing line is depending on the type of sport. Usually the photocells are placed at chest height. (for canoe slalom this is about 50cm above the water kevel)
Place Receiver
The receiver is placed on the side of the track where the timing operator will be positioned. The timing operator has to be placed within a couple of meters of the receiver, in order to be able to have a good view on what is happening on the timing line.
Place the receiver as good as possible aligned with transmitter.
Plug in the external horn into the receiver. The horn should be directed towards the timing line, in order to give a clear audible signal to the athlete.
Connect to BlueBox-GPS
Roll out the cable of the receiver and plug it in to the BlueBox-GPS. Then switch on the BlueBox.
Align photocells
After the basic setup is completed, the photocells should be aligned as good as possible. Make sure to test the setup at race speed a couple of times.
Connect Bluebox to mobile phone app
After the precise alignment of the photocell, connect the Bluebox to the RaceGorilla-Pro app on your mobile phone. Test the connection, verify that the times are send to the server by checking the live results or the times in the dashboard.
