When timing a mass start competition, the order of finishers is very random (as opposed to a time trial finish). Also finishers may come in groups or in dense packs. In this case, the Keypad entry screen should be used.
As RaceGorilla is a manual timing system, one has to be well aware of some limitations. With a bit of practice, you can enter a a bib every 5 seconds (about 12 per minute), when working in pairs (one dictating and one entering), you could reach to 20 per minute.
It is possible to work in multiple pairs simultaneously, which multiplies the number of finishers that can be timed. Having said that… at these numbers a small mistake is easily made, slowing down the process.
It is recommended to have some extra finishers available to be sure all finishers can be handled in real time, As a backup, you can think of taking a video of the at least the first finishers.

Competition Menu
The competition menu shows the set-up of your competition.
Select the correct series of your competition from the drop down box above the competition setup. Most competitions will just have one series.
Click on Finish to enter the finish screen.

Set finish mode to Keypad Entry
To change the timing mode, select the setting button on the top right corner of the finish screen.
Then select timing mode in the settings screen.
In the timing mode screen, choose KeyPad Timing
Then go back to the finih screen, using the top left arrow twice.

There are basically 2 ways using the keypad screen.
- Enter Bib Then tap finish button (left picture)
- Tap finish button , then enter Bib (Right picture)
In general, its better to be prepared, so as soon as you can read the bib, enter the number and tap finish as the athlete crosses the line.
then look out for the next finisher.
Note: Always validate the times taken

Group finish
When a group of athletes is approaching the finish line, its often hard to tell who will be finishing first, as there might be a change in the last centimetre before the finish line. In this case, the best opting is to tap the finish button once for each finisher.
After that, take a few moments to enter the bib numbers in the correct order.
As you can imagine, when multiple small groups come in fast, it is really recommended to have multiple teams of timers available at the finish line.
The red circle around the yellow dot in the first row, indicates this number can be entered (tap ENTER after entering number)
Remember: After entering the bib numbers Validate the times
Entering a couple of numbers fist is possible as well. Not the time is assigned to the participant highlighted in green.

Made a mistake?
There are a couple of left swipe options:
Reset: Resets the time, in case the finish button is tapped by mistake.
DNF: Is to Did Not Finish a given bib number. Use only when 100% sure a participant has abandoned the competition.
Re-assign is to re-assign a time taken to different bib number. However, in most cases it easier to just tab the yellow dot, remove the current bib number (use backspace) and enyter the correct number
Delete: is to delete an entire row (time and bib number)

Yes you can. Be aware that you should confirm the recorded times first before switching screen.
Yes, that is possible just make sure you agree on who is timing who. For example: tell what you are going to do: “I’ll take the one with the yellow shirt”, followed by an answer of your partner “OK, I’ll take the green”. etc…
It is possible to have multiple devices at one finish location. On top of that you can create couples of one person on the lookout and one entering numbers. Of course this does not provide the highest accuracy, but with an average of number entered each second, on for example 3 devices, it surely provides a high peak load solution.
