The latest CloudTimer race was all about fast results. At the Theiner Canoe Slalom Wintercup, 37 paddlers did a four-run training race. Just one year ago, the first race of this Dutch winter race series was the first official event where CloudTimer was used. In one year the confidence in the CloudTimer platform has grown enormously. Now CloudTimer is recognised as a platform which provides accurate and fast results. This a short story for those who love numbers and sport statistics, like we do at CloudTimer!
The Canoe Slalom Winter Cup is a serie of training races. The organisers aim is to have as many starts as possible within a limited time span. The paddlers should have enough time to recuperate, but at the same time they shouldn’t get cold. The Winter Cup serie is recognised as a race with a low entry level and efficient running of an event.
Start Interval
With 37 competitors the organisation aimed at having a run for each paddler each 20 minutes. A quick calculation then results in a 30 second start interval throughout the whole race. At exactly 11 o’clock the team of volunteers was ready to go. First two “virtual” pre-runners were started and scored on each device for practise to ensure everything worked fine.
2220 Gates
At exactly 11:00:49 the first competitor started its first of the four fifteen-gate runs. At exactly 12:30:05 the last paddler finished. The starter, finisher and 3 section judges timed and scored close to a 150 runs and a total of 2220 gates within 90 minutes.
For us as developers the CloudTimer platform once again proved it’s flexibility, reliability and use. With very low overhead a professional competition was held with happy volunteers and paddlers experiencing a great event with smooth organisation and fast results.
After a nice and cosy closing with hot chocolate and some Christmas cake everybody went home in the early afternoon. A normal 2 run race in The Netherlands hardly reaches a 100 starts and usually takes a entire day. That might provide for more time for social gathering, but waiting for results is definitely over when using CloudTimer.
