RaceGorilla is great for Trail running races!
There are two main settings available in RaceGorilla: a mass-start and an individual start mode. For trail running, the mass start is most commonly used. As the athletes will reach the finish line individually it is a fairly easy task to record the times manually. When greater finishing densities occur, just add some extra smartphones to the finish line. That is one of the advantaged of working cloud based.
There is really only one thing you really have to take care of as a race organizer: Make sure your volunteers (timing assistants) are connected and know which task they have to do. It’s easy to learn, but it might at times get stressful at the finish line so the crew has to know what they are doing.
Formats for trail running
Most trail running races, use the mass start. This means that all competitors start at the same time, or in groups. It is possible to start the athletes individual, in pairs or in small groups (for example a group of four). In that case use the time trial setting and select one or more athletes at the same time to start.
Use a the standard format available in RaceGorilla to do a quick test.
This standard format has a start and a finish and a category of men and women. To set up a race with more splits or more categories, use the RaceGorilla dashboard to configure the race entirely to you demands.
